Things have been going well thus far. We have had 5 Coffee House / English Club (CH-EC) meetings with an average of 25-30 International Students each time. In addition, we had 10 students go with us to the Salisbury zoo followed by a church picnic and 21 students go to Assateague Island National Seashore for kite flying, picnic & bonfire.
Although the evening started slowly, by the end 21 International Students had come through the door - 5 Kazakhs, 5 Macedonians, 5 Ukrainians, 3 from Dominican Republic, 1 Korean, 1 Romanian & 1 Russian. Six American students plus 2 staff from the CRU summer project also attended. The discussion groups and subsequent open conversations were incredible :) GOD answered our prayers in a mighty way!
Please pray that many of them will return on Wednesday evening and that GOD will motivate others to join us. Thanks for partnering with us.
Steve, for the team
We thank GOD that all 11 of our Student Volunteers are now with us here in Ocean City, MD :) Marta arrived first on 5 May and Laura arrived last on 5 July - 6 Romanians & 5 Ukrainians - 6 girls & 5 boys. We also had 3 CRU staff from Moldova with us in June; we currently have 2 Romanian CRU staff with us and 1 CRU Staff & 2 Volunteers from Kazakhstan are scheduled to arrive tonight. It is a BIG team.
The weekend retreat in the mountains of Voronet, ROMANIA was incredible. We departed from the bus into 4-6 inches of freshly fallen snow on that first day of spring. Everything was so beautiful and the 35 students who joined us were excited. Over the weekend we had two English Club sessions (good vs evil & money), six delicious meals, numerous random snowball battles, the chance to visit two 15th-century monasteries, ride a horse, play board games, basketball, volleyball, and football (once we shoveled ALL of the snow off of the field) AND experience the American party during which Sierra had the privileged of sharing how a personal relationship with Jesus has changed her life. It was a great time together seeing GOD at work in the minds and hearts of these students :)
Greetings from Iasi, ROMANIA! Our team arrived safely on Sunday afternoon 15 March. The first two nights of English Club (EC) went well. There were about 80 students each night and our topics were anxiety & fear and leadership. There are three classes - Uncle Bill is teaching the intermediates while Sierra (our youngest daughter) is helping me teach the upper intermediate / advanced class. We have three discussion groups in our class - Sierra leads one and I alternate between the other two. During the second hour each night we read and discuss a parable, miracle or experience of Jesus.
We trust that GOD was at work as Steve & Uncle Bill both had the chance to share their testimonies with the high school students in Bucharest, ROMANIA last Friday. In addition, the American party last Saturday was well attended. Five of the six local American missionaries who helped lead discussion groups participated in the party and most of them have committed to stay involved to help with follow up :)
Things have gone well during the first three days of English Club (EC) for high school students here in Bucharest, ROMANIA. Uncle Bill is teaching the lower level students and I, Steve, the upper level students. In both of our classrooms we have four discussion groups of around ten students (about 80 students altogether). Six local American missionaries are helping us lead the discussion groups. We have 3 one-hour EC sessions each day and then the kids play games and do group activities for another two hours.
Steve and his brother Uncle Bill leave TODAY on a two-week trip in order to:
- do a one-week English Club & American party for about 100 high school students in Bucharest, ROMANIA from Tuesday 3 Feb through Saturday 7 Feb and also to meet with university students about summer opportunities in Ocean City, MD with the Work & Travel Program
- do a one-week English Club & American party in Chisinau, MOLDOVA from Monday 9 Feb through Saturday 14 Feb for about 40 university students who want to improve their English and who are open to and interested in spiritual things
- meet in Istanbul on Monday 16 Feb with Turkish students who have been in Ocean City, MD & explore possibilities for doing English Clubs in Turkey
Please pray for our families and that GOD will provide good health, safety/protection, and excellence in teaching for Steve & Uncle Bill, and that GOD's purposes will be accomplished in the mind and heart of each student as they read and discuss Bible passages each night of English Club. Thanks for partnering with us :)

GOD at work in the lives of International Students
Sometimes we first meet an International Student during the summer in Ocean City, MD. Other times it happens during an English Club in the city where they attend university. But it is exciting when we have the opportunity to build relationships with International Students in both locations!
We met Silviu during the summer of 2013 in Ocean City, MD at one of the free meals that area churches provide for International Students. He had a need and we were able to help him. Steve had forgotten about him until Silviu showed up in Steve's class during the recent English Club (EC) in Iasi, ROMANIA. Although initially reserved, Silviu's personality was transformed as he faithfully attended each session, the weekend retreat and various excursions around Iasi. Although he has not yet committed his life to Jesus, Silviu is much more open to the Gospel now.
